How to take great pictures of your Black Light UV tattoos

How to take great pictures of your UV tattoos – The key to a great UV picture is not moving. If either client or camera move even slightly, the picture will blur a lot.  Having the client sit, or brace themselves against something, and use of a tripod for the camera will improve the quality of the photo.  Remember NOT to use your flash.

There are 3 types of pictures you should take for each UV tattoo – one in normal light, no VU light source. The next should be with the normal light on, and the UV light near the tattoo – 6 inches away (depending on the strength and size of the UV light) should give you a great clear picture. And the last – if possible, should be in total darkness with only the UV light on.

Take your photos quickly after you have finished the tattoo, clean it, and wipe it off very well. and take the photos quickly so that they are clean. If you wait too long, blood can dull the lines. any ointment will cause a glare and take away from the photo. On a last note - you should always ask the client to come back when it is fully healed if this is possible - this will give you the best pictures!

Keep in mind – that nightclubs and raves use MUCH brighter UV light sources than you will need in a studio. So by taking the pictures as mentioned above, you have what the tattoo will look like in many settings.

Good luck, and Enjoy!
